Profile of Zhejiang Shuren University
（ZJSRU）is located in Hangzhou, a city in the eastern part of China famous for her rich history and culture. Enveloped in the spectacular natural beauty of mountains and lakes, and decorated with numerous native scholars and poets throughout the Chinese history, Hangzhou presents an ideal place of one's academic pursuti and character academic pursuit and character development.

Zhejiang Shuren University（ZJSRU）, established in 1984 , is one of the earliest full-time private-run, state-endorsed universities in China since the national reform in 1978. In 2003, it was escalated to a university of higher learning with 4-year programmes.

ZJSRU, adheres to the philosophy of student-oriented education and respect for teachers while staying steadfast to its motto "Virtue, Verity, and Student First." Taking full advantage of private-run system, it actively explores new models of higher education reform and development under modern circumstances. Over the past 27 years, the university has achieved overall improvements in the scale, level and quality of its education and therefore makes great strides in the way of developing private university.
With a campus of nearly 33.3 hectares and a floor space of about 320, 000 square meters, the university now has more than 14,000 regular full-time students and over 800 faculty members. It currently consists of 9 schools and 2 teaching centers. Courses are offered in 6 main academic disciplines: economics, management, literature, engineering, law and art. ZJSRU provides 26 specialties for the undergraduates, 11 specialties for the students of three-year career program, among which International Economics and Trade is selected as national characteristic specialty, and Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science and Technology, Applied Electronic Technology and Japanese as provincial key specialties. In addition, the university has 11 laboratories, among which computer, chemistry, construction engineering and information are awarded as provincial demonstration centers for experiment teaching. The total value of teaching and researching equipment amounts to 107,720,000 RMB.
The university library has 1,240,000 books in its collection, and has access to 600,000 E-Books of diverse contents, 1650 Chinese and foreign periodicals, 30 Chinese and foreign language databases, and abundant digital information resources. The university possesses a first-class sports center, a standard track and field stadium, a tennis court, basketball play grounds, volleyball play grounds and other facilities. In addition, Tonglu Campus of 76.7 hectares is under construction.
The University places high priority on teaching quality and has launched “Teaching Quality Project” in 2006, “3-Year Plan for Curricular Reform” in 2009 and “Favorable Class Construction” in 2010. Through classroom teaching, practical training and teaching reform of college English and computer courses, the teaching quality has been improved and training mode of application-typed talent at an advanced level has been formed. For this reason, graduates from ZJSRU have gained recognition from various enterprises and the employment rate of undergraduates upon graduation has been over 95% in recent years. It has produced more than 30,000 graduates till now.
ZJSRU follows its strategy of strengthening university with good teachers. Under the guidance of “fostering, employing, introducing and adjusting”, it has implemented the Teacher Training Project and Professor Cultivation Plan and thus makes teachers qualified for undergraduate education. Now the university has 569 full-time teachers, of whom 61 are professors (10.7%) and 153 associate professors (26.9%), 53 with PhD and 362 with master's degree (72.9% in total). Some of them have been awarded the following honors at national or provincial level: Professional Technology Talent, Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contribution, Distinguished Teachers etc., and thirty have been selected as the training candidates of the “New Century 151 Talents Project". Meanwhile, the university has a relative stable and experienced team of more than 300 externally-employed teachers, more than half of whom own senior professional titles.
ZJSRU adheres to the strategy of revitalizing university with discipline construction and academic research and has made great progress on them. It possesses two preponderant disciplines: Service Economy and Ancient Ceramics of Southern Song Dynasty. As one of three research centers of China service economy, the Service Economy Research Center reckons with the discipline development trend and plays a leading role in this field. It is also an important base for personnel training and policy advisory both for Central Government and local governments. The disciplinary leader, as the chairman of National Committee of Experts on Service and Trade, gives lectures to 15 provincial governments.
Ceramics Research Institute has made noticeable achievement in studying imperial kiln of Southern Song Dynasty, of which the leader acts as both Chairman of China Imperial Kiln Society and Director of China Ancient Ceramics Committee. Moreover, Higher Education Science has been awarded provincial key discipline (A) in 2009 and Research Center of Non-government High Education is the only one in Zhejiang to have been listed as China Top Research Center for Higher Education three years in succession. In recent years, over a dozen of prizes at ministerial or provincial level have also been awarded to ZJSRU, such as Humanistic Disciplines and the Social Sciences Award of the Ministry of Education, Zhejiang Award for Science and Technology Progress, Zhejiang Philosophy and Social Science Award.
ZJSRU encourages collaborations with foreign partners and facilitates exchange programs. Under the strategy of international education, the university has established strategic partnership with more than 20 universities in countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea, Germany, Ukraine, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. At the same time, the university engages more than 10 foreign teacher every year and regularly sends instructors abroad for academic training or conferences, and outstanding students for advanced studies in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other countries and regions, which amounts to 230 in total for three years.
With the philosophy of student-oriented education and respect for teachers, The University insists on political core and supervision of the Party and continues to strengthen party-building and ideological and political work in an all-round way and to innovate mechanisms. It has made remarkable achievements in it. For example, the university Party committee was given the opportunity to make a representative speech in the 14th meeting of the National Varsity Party Building in 2005. And since 2002, it has fully implemented Talent Planning, Virtue Planning and Favorable Class Construction. The university has also received various titles such as “Safe Campus of Zhejiang” in 2006, “Security Demonstration Organization of Zhejiang” and “Security Demonstration Campus of Hangzhou” in 2008.
    Today, under the guidance of National Long-term Education Development Plan, the university is thoroughly implementing ZJSRU Long-term Development Plan. The university library has 1,170,000 books in its collection, and has access to 600,000 E-Books of diverse content, 1652 Chinese and foreign periodicals, 25 Chinese and foreign language databases, and abundant digital information resources. The university possesses 87.66 million RMB worth of teaching and research equipments, a first-class sports center, a standard track and field stadium, tennis courts and other facilities.
Now the university has 525 full-time teachers, of whom 36% are professors and associate professors, 70% with PhD and master's degree, one National Excellent Teacher, two academic leaders for Provincial Young and Middle-aged Scholars of Higher Education (PYMSHE), one funded by the "New Century 151 Talents Project" of the province, one selected as the first-level training candidate of the “151 Project," twenty-nine third-level training candidates, three training candidates for PYMSHE, one provincial Master Teacher of Higher Education, and three persons awarded Provincial New Stars of Higher Education. Meanwhile, the university has a relatively stable and experienced team of more than 300 externally-employed teachers, more than half of whom own senior professional titles.
ZJSRU believes in a research-focused core strategy and continues to improve the overall level of academic research. In recent years, the university has been awarded a total of 124 province-level and above grants, and 136 grants in areas of government-entrusted research, technology development, and social services among other horizontal topics, amounting to a total of 24.36 million RMB external research funding. The university has collected a second prize in Humanities and Social Sciences by the Ministry of Education, a provincial award for Significant Contribution to Science and Technology, two provincial second prizes for Science and Technology, one provincial Excellent Research Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences, two third prizes in the same category, and four provincial teaching awards. Furthermore, the university offers two provincial key disciplines: International Trade program and Higher Education program.
